A VISIT TO REN CI COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

Today I went to Ren Ci Community Hospital* to visit a cousin who was transferred there from Tan Tock Seng for rehab therapy.  She fell in the bathroom and had a fractured wrist.  She had swollen feet because of arthritis.  but thank God there's no more swelling.
*Ren Ci Hospital is like an old folks home for sick elderly.

When I was there, I witness an elderly lady refusing to be discharged.  Heard from cousin that she's got dementia.  Every time one of the nurses (btw, there were 6 nurses trying to convince her to sit on the wheelchair) tries to help her, she will should "mai!!" (means don't want).

It was somewhat a little hilarious to see her in action because she's so feisty.

But while I was there, I saw many other patients lying on their beds, not moving.  Perhaps tired while recovering from their illness.

I had mixed feelings.  I felt sad for the patients there.  Some of them have been staying there for a while.  And most of them have dementia.  While I'm sad that most of them don't know what is going on around them, they at least have a lot of nurses and helpers to help them.  But I'm glad the place is clean and spacious and they have a lot of helpers and nurses there.

DENTAL APPOINTMENT 27 APRIL 2010

Happy that Jonathan could make it for the appointment today since he was not well on Sunday.

We were half hour late for this morning's appointment at the National Dental Centre this morning.  Traffic was heavy.  Thankfully the doctor said it was ok for Jonathan to see her.

Waited half hour for our turn.  Today was number 71 at room 20.  Yup...they have so many rooms on just one level.  Pediatric Dentistry.

Jonathan was good.  Of course, asking him to open his mouth is still a task for him.  The funny thing was he opened a small gap after she removed her fingers from his mouth and closed it up when she tried again.

She checked the teeth outside.  Said that one of the teeth has turned pinkish and about to fall out.  It's actually just covering the new tooth that is slightly visible from gum.  Advise is to leave it alone and let it fall out on its own.  So we can expect it out any time soon.

There are still about 4 baby tooth/molars (including the shaky one) that's left to drop out.  We are also waiting for the adult molars to come up.  These adult molars are on their own.  They are not from the spaces where the baby molars drop off.  These molars will come up from the gum at the very back after the last molar space.  They are conveniently called the 12 year old molars.  Just additional teeth as the child grows older. Jonathan's a little late but it doesn't really matter.  Dr Toh said we should expect them soon.

His front teeth are generally cleaner now.  There's not much plague and we're happy with that.  At least now, he opens his mouth a little wider for me to clean the back of the front teeth and spits water whenever we rinse his mouth.

Dr Toh mentioned that we will not do the major cleaning until the adult molars are out.  Then they can put a sealant on all the new teeth and patch up and work on whatever needs to be protected and do a thorough cleaning.  Perhaps in another year.  We also to increase the toothpaste from pea-size to slightly more since he knows how to spit the water out and only swallows on the third rinse.

She recommended a cute toothbrush for Jonathan.  It's a 3-in-1 way toothbrush that while you clean the top, the side bristles will clean both the in and out sides of the teeth.  We got it from the dental pharmacy there.

There were a few brands but I picked this since it was endorsed by the Health Promotion Board.  haha.  Talk about kiasu :)

Jonathan has had 2 very good dentists since day one of his appointments.  One is Dr Rashid Tahir who is now at The Kids Dentist and the current Dr Toh.  They always give us a thorough explanation and are very very good with Jonathan.

Anwyay, praise the Lord the appointment went well.  Next one will be in October 2010.

WHAT A WEEK!

My nephew's birthday last Friday.  So decided to do a shirt for him.  He always signed off his emails with his initials "MW".  So I decided to do a small emblem for the front:

Then using the same initials, I stretched the W and put a verse in between his initials making it to look like a cross.  This was printed on the back of the shirt.

Then I found a musical vector that was really nice and printed this on the canvas bag.  Added a verse as well.  Love the results.
But on Thursday morning, my mum had a fall.  2 falls actually.  The other on another night.  All in the middle of the night.  The first fall gave her a bad bruise behind her head.  But the second fall gave her a hairline fracture in the inner right hip.   She became unwell yesterday after we had a birthday celebration at her place on Saturday evening.  But when i spoke to her this morning, she sounded cheery.

My nephew (the birthday boy) also came down with high fever yesterday.  Then it was Jonathan's turn.  We brought him to the market for lunch and were caught in the drizzle on the way back.  But by afternoon, he started throwing up.  Thank God for previous experiences.  Stopped milk, gave porridge water and the necessary medication.  Today he woke up a little more cheery although lethargic.

He's got the dental appointment tomorrow morning.  We have to bring him cos it's been postponed many times and I do want his teeth to be checked.  He's probably due for another major cleaning.  Hope everything will turn out ok.

What a way to end last week.

OH SO COOL!

Wednesday was a busy day for these technicians.  The efficient guys from Aire Control did an excellent job in changing the air-con units and removing and fixing the big compressor within 6 hours.

Here, they just removed the old Carrier compressor {above}.  And here is the new Daikin {below} before it was lifted through the small window unto the steel bracket outside.
They were professional and they made sure after fixing each unit, swept and mob the floor so cleaning would be minimal for us.

So now ... Jonathan is enjoying the oh so cool air in the sweltering and humid weather.

And while they were doing it, I managed to design this for my sister, who wanted a tshirt based on Psalm 23:1

Took this picture in bad lighting but it's actually a silver/grey lamb with white body {although in this picture it looks the total opposite : white outline, grey body..hahaha!}.  The words on the body are in burgundy and the rest of the other words are white.  It was layered and pressed on a dark blue tshirt.

I've come up designs for coasters and I hope to market them soon.  Here's a sneak peek of one of them:

Pressed on cork coasters.  If you want a set of matching coasters, please let me know.  Thin cork coasters, size:  radius 8cm.

BOOKMARK AND HOT WEATHER

My sister's TOUR COMPANY needed bookmarks for giveaways while they hold a stall at a teacher's conference and I came up with this.  These will be given out tomorrow.

Wish I had a punch big enough to punch out the key-hole instead of just a small eyelet punch.  But it still looked good with the organza ribbon {below}that I used.

In the mean time, the weather is killer these few days.  My air-condition has finally broken down and unrepairable.  Jonathan's been sleeping in shorts and tshirt at night and it takes him so much longer to fall asleep because of the heat.  While we resort to using 2 fans in his room (until around 4am) as I mentioned EARLIER, it seems to kinda help his nose a little more.  I guess fresh air is better than not.

I hope the new Daikin air-con we have just ordered will be good, if not better than this last one we had. But I'm not comparing much because this old one has served us for 15 years ever since we moved into this home.

In any case, I'm looking forward to the new cool air we'll be getting by next Wednesday but so not looking forward to cleaning up the house after installation!

TWO FANS

No...I don't have fans following me ;p  haha.

The air conditioned has broken down.  Thankfully it's been raining but last night, the humidity was unbearable so I had to use 2 fans for Jonathan's room!

We can only service them tomorrow.  Hopefully by then, we can get the air-con going.  I only hope it's the units and not the compressor that's causing the problem.

What are we going to do without air-con?
